Bank of America's public help pages we checked do not list the file formats for personal account downloads, so they do not say whether you can download a statement as an Excel file. What they do describe is up to 18 months of statements online, which you can view, print and download, and copies going back up to 7 years on request (Bank of America (opens in a new tab)). To get a statement into Excel, convert the PDF with bank statement to Excel or the free bank statement converter.

Statements: 18 months online, copies up to 7 years

Bank of America says your statements, with check images, are available online, and that you can view, print and download up to 18 months of them at any time (Bank of America (opens in a new tab)). It describes viewing statements online in PDF format.

For older statements, you can order copies going back up to 7 years. Bank of America says the copy is delivered online, free of charge. The path it gives is:

  1. Log in.
  2. Go to Statements & Documents under the Accounts tab.
  3. Select Request statements.

Electronic statements are available 24 to 36 hours after your request and stay accessible for 7 days.

Credit card accounts

Bank of America's credit card FAQ lists what you can do online (Bank of America (opens in a new tab)):

  • request up to 12 months of detailed transaction information
  • view and print up to 3 years of credit card statements
  • "Download transactions for use with financial management software"

The FAQ does not name the file formats for that download.

Downloading transactions

Bank of America's FAQ for My Financial Picture, its financial management tool, describes a download there: view the Filter by choices for the transactions you want to export, select the More menu, select a time period if you want, and then select Start download (Bank of America (opens in a new tab)). The same FAQ says that after you enroll, My Financial Picture displays your transactions for the last 90 days.

The public help pages we checked do not list the file formats for personal account downloads.

Small business accounts and QuickBooks

For small business accounts, Bank of America says that to download account information or access it directly with Small Business Online Banking, you must use either QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop 2018 or later (Bank of America (opens in a new tab)). Its Web Connect option downloads transactions from Small Business Online Banking and launches QuickBooks Desktop. Bank of America says QuickBooks works with checking, savings, money market and credit card accounts.

If you need a QuickBooks file for a period you only have as a PDF, see PDF to QBO and the QBO file guide.

From a PDF statement to Excel

When the statement you need is a PDF, a converter can read its transactions into a spreadsheet:

  1. Download the statement if it is within the last 18 months, or request a copy through Statements & Documents, then Request statements, if it is older.
  2. Upload it to bank statement to Excel.
  3. Review any row the balance check flags, then download the Excel file.

StatementLoom reads text PDF statements, the kind you download from online banking. It does not read scanned or photographed statements. It checks that the opening balance plus every transaction equals the closing balance, and that each printed running balance follows from the one before. You can only export once the statement reconciles. Convert one statement at a time; StatementLoom warns when two statements for the same account overlap.

The Excel file has a sheet with Date, Description, Amount, Debit, Credit and Balance as date and number cells, plus a Summary sheet with the period, opening and closing balances and the reconciliation result. For credit card statements, see credit card statement to Excel.

The free bank statement converter reads up to 10 pages per visitor in a rolling 24 hours without an account, and downloads Excel, CSV or Xero CSV. Statements from the free converter are deleted within an hour; in an account, uploads are deleted automatically 24 hours after upload by default (workspaces can choose 7 or 30 days).
