How to download Chase transactions as a CSV file
Chase's Spending Planner downloads CSV, QFX, QIF or QBO files for the last two years on desktop. Older periods come from PDF statements.
On this page
Chase's help says that if you have a Chase checking or credit card account, you can use its Spending Planner, and that on a desktop computer it downloads your transactions as a spreadsheet (CSV) for the last two years (Chase (opens in a new tab)). Statements themselves are PDFs, and depending on the account type, Chase says you can access up to 7 years of statements. For a period the CSV download does not reach, convert the PDF statement to CSV with the free bank statement converter.
Download transactions as CSV in Spending Planner
Chase describes the download in its pages about Spending Planner (Chase (opens in a new tab)). On a desktop computer, the tool downloads transactions in four formats for the last two years:
CSV, a spreadsheet fileQFX, Quicken Web ConnectQIF, for Quicken or Microsoft MoneyQBO, QuickBooks Web Connect
On a mobile phone, the same tool downloads PDF versions of your transactions for the last calendar year, not a CSV. So for a CSV, use a desktop computer.
The format list and the two-year window above come from Chase's Spending Planner pages. Chase's help we checked does not give a format list or date limit for any other download option, so this guide does not describe one.

Download Chase statements as PDF
Chase says that, depending on the account type, you can access up to 7 years of statements (Chase (opens in a new tab)). Chase's paperless statements page describes these steps:
- Click the Main Menu symbol in the top left corner of your dashboard and choose "Statements & documents".
- Choose the year and the account.
- Click the Open or Save icon to the right of the statement you want.
The same page also describes clicking Statements, selecting your account, and then the year and statement to open it as a PDF.
When the CSV does not reach back far enough
The desktop download covers the last two years, while statements can go back up to 7 years. For anything in between, you can download the PDF statement and convert it to a CSV.
- Download the PDF statement for each month you need, as above.
- Upload it to the free bank statement converter or the bank statement to CSV converter.
- Fix any row the balance check flags, then download the CSV.
If the file is for QuickBooks or Quicken
Chase's desktop download also offers QBO and QFX. Intuit's QuickBooks Desktop help says a .qbo file is the only type Web Connect can read (Intuit (opens in a new tab)). See the QBO file guide for how to import one.
For QuickBooks Online, Intuit's US help says you can upload a QBO, QFX or CSV file of 350 KB or less, and that .csv, .txt, .qbo or .ofx uploads can include up to 1,000 lines, one transaction per line (Intuit (opens in a new tab)). For larger uploads, Intuit suggests shortening the date range and downloading transactions in smaller batches.
Quicken says it does not support QFX files created by third-party conversion software, such as PDF-to-QFX conversion (Quicken (opens in a new tab)).
To use a Chase CSV in QuickBooks Online or Xero, the bank CSV cleaner reshapes it into the QuickBooks Online 3-column or 4-column layout, or the Xero layout.
Converting a Chase PDF with StatementLoom
StatementLoom reads text PDF statements, the kind you download from online banking. It does not read scanned or photographed statements. It checks that the opening balance plus every transaction equals the closing balance, and that every printed running balance follows from the one before. Rows that break the check are flagged, and you can edit them before you export.
The CSV has the columns Date, Description, Amount, Debit, Credit and Balance, with dates as MM/DD/YYYY for US dollar statements. The free converter reads up to 10 pages per visitor in a rolling 24 hours without an account. Statements from the free converter are deleted within an hour; in an account, uploads are deleted automatically 24 hours after upload by default (workspaces can choose 7 or 30 days), and StatementLoom warns when two statements for the same account overlap.
