Lloyds statements come as PDFs: you can view a statement, save it as a PDF or print a copy, going back 7 years in online banking and at least ten years in the app (Lloyds Bank (opens in a new tab)). Lloyds' pages describe a CSV export for business accounts and a 12-month midata file for personal current accounts. To put a statement into Excel, convert the PDF with bank statement to Excel or the free bank statement converter.

Lloyds statements as PDF

Lloyds says that in online banking you can access statements up to 7 years old, and in the app you can go back at least ten years (Lloyds Bank (opens in a new tab)). To get one, log in and select Statement options from your account page, then view the statement, save it as a PDF or print it.

Credit cards work differently. Lloyds says you need to ask for a PDF statement using its online chat, or download a PDF statement in its app.

Business accounts: export transactions as CSV or QIF

For business accounts, Lloyds says to go to Statement options and then Export transactions (CSV, QIF) (Lloyds Bank (opens in a new tab)). The page gives no period for the export itself. Separately, its transaction search goes back up to 12 months in the new online layout, or over a three-month period in the old one.

Lloyds' Business Internet Banking help also says you can export your statement to a separate data file at the bottom of the page, to import the transaction history into your own accounting software (Lloyds Bank (opens in a new tab)).

Personal accounts: the midata file

Lloyds describes the midata file as a 12-month transaction history of your personal current account, which you can download in online banking (Lloyds Bank (opens in a new tab)). To find it, expand Account Services and select Midata Export. Lloyds says it can help you choose new products and services through comparison websites.

The Lloyds pages we checked describe the CSV and QIF export for business accounts only.

Which route covers which period

Lloyds' pages on statements (opens in a new tab), business exports (opens in a new tab) and the midata file (opens in a new tab) give each route a different reach:

What you need Route Lloyds describes How far back
Personal current account transactions Midata Export in online banking 12 months
Business account transactions Export transactions (CSV, QIF) Not stated for the export
Account statements Statement options, as PDF 7 years online, at least ten in the app

So for a personal current account, of the routes above, anything older than the 12-month midata file comes from the PDF statement.

Turning a Lloyds PDF statement into Excel

  1. Download the PDF statement from Statement options.
  2. Upload it to bank statement to Excel.
  3. Review any row the balance check flags, then download the Excel file.

StatementLoom reads text PDF statements, the kind you download from online banking, and refuses scanned or photographed ones. It reads day-first dates and amounts in pounds. It checks that the opening balance plus every transaction equals the closing balance, and you can only export once the statement reconciles.

The Excel file has a sheet with Date, Description, Amount, Debit, Credit and Balance, plus a Summary sheet with the period, balances and reconciliation result. For a credit card statement, see credit card statement to Excel.

The free converter reads up to 10 pages per visitor in a rolling 24 hours without an account and downloads Excel, CSV or Xero CSV. Statements from the free converter are deleted within an hour; in an account, uploads are deleted automatically 24 hours after upload by default (workspaces can choose 7 or 30 days), or immediately with Delete.

If the file is for Xero, note that Xero says PDF bank statement imports are only available in Xero organisations in Canada and the United States (Xero Central (opens in a new tab)). Xero's global help says it supports OFX, QFX, QIF, CSV and QuickBooks file formats (Xero Central (opens in a new tab)). For a UK organisation, the Xero CSV that StatementLoom also exports is one of those formats.
