Free tool
Do your transactions add up?
Paste rows from a statement or a spreadsheet, or upload a bank CSV. The checker adds every transaction to the opening balance, compares it with the closing balance, and, when your rows carry a running balance, names the row where it stops adding up. Free, and nothing is kept.
Starting from a PDF statement?
StatementLoom reads the statement and runs this same check before you download Excel, CSV, QBO, QFX or OFX. Try the free converter or start a free account. To reshape a bank CSV for import, use the bank CSV cleaner.
Questions
What does the checker test?
That the opening balance plus every transaction equals the closing balance, and, when your rows carry a running balance, that each one follows from the row above it. A wrong row is named, with the amount that would make it fit.
Is this the same as reconciling?
No. It tests whether a list of transactions adds up on its own. Reconciling compares your books with the bank statement.
Do I have to enter the balances?
Not when the rows have a balance column: the opening balance is taken from the first row and the closing balance from the last, and the result says so.
Is my data stored?
No. It is read to run the check and is not kept.
