How it works

Bank side

The statement's ending balance, plus deposits in transit, less outstanding checks and payments, gives the adjusted bank balance.

Book side

Your books' ending balance, plus credits and less charges the statement shows but your books do not yet, gives the adjusted book balance.

The difference

The template subtracts one from the other. At 0.00 it says Reconciled; anything else is still to find.

New to reconciling? The bank statement reconciliation guide walks through it with a worked example.

Have the bank's PDF statement?

Turn it into Excel or CSV, checked against its own balances, so the bank side starts from numbers you can trust. Try the free converter or start a free account.

Questions

What is in the template?
One sheet with a bank side and a book side, each starting from an ending balance, four lists for reconciling items, and a difference cell that says Reconciled when it reaches 0.00.
Does it need macros?
No. It uses ordinary formulas, so it works in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers and LibreOffice.
Which items go on which side?
Deposits in transit and outstanding checks adjust the bank balance. Interest, fees and transfers the bank recorded but your books do not yet show adjust the book balance.
